We started walking a 3 yr old Newfoundland called Melody . I was worried that she was going to pull me over in the snow and ice , – she is a strong dog and pulls on a lead

Poor girl is in season at the moment so we are giving her one to one walks on a lead, but she looks as though she would really enjoy bouncing around with the other dogs

We have been walking and feeding Sophie twice a day for a year. Sophie is a little 12 year old Jack Russell who loves to be out and having a go0d smell on her walks. Her owner is an elderly lady that needs help to get Sophie out and about with dog walking.

She has been all over with The Sweeney Dog Team, down to the river , out with a huge Irish wolf hound or a St Bernard and always enjoys her walks and mixes well , especially with the smaller dogs and has really benefited from the socialisation that the year has given her.

Springer Spaniel Playing in Snow

This Springer called Sol was a rescue dog , and is not great at socialisation with other dogs. He doesn’t mind other dogs but he just loves playing with sticks and balls. You have tom be very careful throwing sticks so they don’t fall and injure a dog or that they might stick in the ground and the dog might run into them and hurt himself.

Sol got this stick and watch his tail go as he plays with the stick – must be the fastest tail in York

Irish Wolf Hound Auditions for singing competition

I was out walking a couple of dogs early this morning and I took this video clip of a singing Irish Wolf Hound called Guinness. He was enjoying himself so much in the snow , he just stopped and gave me an impromptu performance. Cant tell exactly what tune it is but Guinness seems to know. – anyway do you think he has the talent to go on X Factor??

We may not like the snow , but all the dogs seem to love it. Even Sophie (an elderly Jack Russell) how is very reluctant to step out of her door , but with a little encouragement , she is soon bouncing around in the white stuff.

Guinness is a 5 year old Irish Wolf Hound that is usually very sedate , but even he has caught the snow fever and is running around like he was a puppy. Despite the snow and freezing conditions, we have manged to get to all our customers dogs and take them out

Snow doesn’t stop Sweeney Dog – dog walkers York

Despite the awful weather here in York , Sweeney Dog have been out every day picking up and walking customers dogs. People (and their dogs) rely on our services and we will endeavour to always get to your dog or to feed your cat.
Even though it has been blizzard conditions this week, a dog walker can still have fun and watching a group of dogs charge about in the snow is great to watch. Hopefully when they will go back to their homes they will be tired and have a good rest.

Happy to see a difficult dog progress

I have just been to see a dog we used to walk about a year ago. It was re-homed as it bad habit of running away and staying out for 24 – 48 hours. You couldn’t tempt it back with food , it just loved being able to run free.

We helped him to be re-homed and it now lives with a great couple that have really tried to show consistent care and attention and given the dog consistent but caring and a stable home.

what a difference , it has put on much needed weight, its calm and confident and altogether a much happier and assured dog. Happy to walk off lead and not run away. Brilliant to see such a change and great credit to the new family that have taken the time and trouble to care.

We at Sweeney Dog are taking it out for walks when they are away on holiday and really looking forward to dog walking with some old friends of his.

It great to see how far a dog can progress with the right support and affection and in a small way been part of the transformation

Normal Dog Behaviour

It is very normal for dogs to greet other dogs by wanting to smell them – especially the rear end. I heard a story today that a dog owner complained to another owner that her dogs were sniffing her dog. this is perfectly normal behaviour and should not be considered aggressive behaviour.
